Comic Books

Or paper crack, which is what they really are. We have a growing pile of them, and we've only been at it a year. Ah, well, everyone has to have some sort of addiction, I suppose, and these are a little less expensive than standard novels if bought individually.

Every person has a favorite, or set of favorites. I've started looking for authors more than anything now; my top authors are Brian Michael Bendis, J. Michael Stracynzki (of Babylon 5 fame) and Greg Rucka. Fortunately, Bendis has been running "Daredevil", JMS is writing both "Amazing Spider-Man" and "Supreme Powers", and Rucka has his tentacles firmly in "Gotham Central" and "Queen and Country". All great titles.

We have a few here and there of several titles. We dropped Green Lantern along about the time Kyle switched to "ribbed" mode, and dropped Aquaman as the original promise fizzled. Necrowar is on hiatus, hopefully to return. Unhappily, though, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the Peter David series referred to as the cartoon version, which seems to bear no resemblance to the TV show) is formally canceled. It was quite promising, with some definite twists I hope someone else picks up on.

I just got tickled by the new Batman/Superman series, and managed to snag #6-8; those were quirky and fun. Worth picking up.

I honestly never thought I'd read Fantastic Four; too wholesome, too pat. I guess all it took was somebody to make it realistic and non-episodal enough... like with Daredevil, Marvel Knights managed to come up with the right blend of gritty and funny, and now I'm hooked on "4". Good writing, total eye candy, what's not to like?

What we collect regularly:

4 (Marvel Knights)
Amazing Spider-Man
The Authority
Batman/Superman
Daredevil
Gotham Central
The Pulse
Queen and Country
Spectacular Spider-Man
Supreme Powers

I pick up trades of Hellboy when I have a little cash, and I'd like to get JMS' indy trades like "Falling Stars".
